Day 15 : Invest your money responsibly

Should you change your investment provider ?

In a previous post, we talked about responsible investment and how it’s just as important as the daily actions you can take for a better world, things like biking to work, avoiding disposable items and eating less meat. You may not know it, but you can actually choose to invest your KiwiSaver account in ethical or socially responsible investment funds. From a small sample of sustainability-minded New Zealanders, we found that 93% say it’s important or very important that their KiwiSaver be invested in funds that reflect their personal values on ethical, environmental and social issues.

How do you feel about your KiwiSaver being invested in the following industries ?

  • Tobacco production

  • Gambling operations

  • Pornography

  • Fossil fuel exploration

  • Nuclear power production

  • Civilian firearms production

  • Military weapons manufacturing

  • Animal testing for cosmetics, chemicals and health

If you answered “concerned” for any of the above, you should switch your investment provider. It may seem like a big change, but it’s actually really easy - you can switch in a matter of minutes.

Make sure to look for the Responsible Investment Association Australasia (RIAA) logo - this means that the fund is certified for responsible investment, so you know it’s a fund you can trust.

It’s why we partner with Booster - because they offer RIAA-certified ethical investment funds.
