Day 14 : Go plogging

We produce over 300 million tons of plastic each year and 8.8 million tons of this waste gets dumped into the oceans. Plastic is threatening a lot of animals, which as a result are on the verge of extinction. By 2050, it is estimated that there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean.

But what can we do about this plastic pollution ??

People have come up with creative ways to solve our plastic problem, one of which is “plogging”. It is a combination of jogging and plocka upp (which means “to pick up” in Swedish). This new trend came about in 2016 and is starting to gain serious interest, it involves jogging and quickly stopping to pick up trash while you go.

Most ploggers will bring gloves and a trash bag, and when they see litter while running, they pick it up ! But what if you’re not much of a jogger? No worries - the main idea is to combine exercising with cleaning up litter. You can walk, bring your dog, go as a group, whatever!

Plogging is gaining momentum in Europe and all around the world, so if you have a pair of gloves, a trash bag, enjoy being outside, want to do something for the planet, then plogging might be the right sport for you!
